Chinese New Year HSBC trip with children from Mercury and Pluto
Upland Primary School were invited to return to HSBC UK headquarters in Canary Wharf on Monday 30th January 2017 to be part of their community Chinese New Year Celebrations.
27 children from Mercury and Pluto caught the bus and the tube with Mrs.Sengupta, Mrs.Styles and Mr.Gregory to HSBC where they were greeted by the officials from the bank handed named security passes and escorted up to the hospitality sweet in the big glass elevators.
We just had time for a quick snack and to warm up our voices before we were shown back to the impressive foyer where the Lion dancers and musicians were getting ready.
The children listened to the speeches, were wowed by the lion dance and then got up to perform the traditional Chinese “Jasmine Flower Song” in front of the audience who had gathered.
There was a great hush and the children’s’ sweet singing filled the space perfectly and the audience was equally amazed by the children’s wonderful pronunciation of the Mandarin lyrics. This was followed by some impressive martial arts and traditional dancers. Lastly the children were treated to their own banquet before going back to the school. As always the children were a credit to themselves, their parents and the school and sowed exceptional behavior across the whole day.
