Food Technology – Cake Decorating University Day
On Thursday 17th November selected children from KS1 and KS2 had a cupcake decorating class with Miss Lafferty and Mrs Dyckhoff.
The aim was to decorate cupcakes for our charity bake sale for Children in Need, and they did amazingly well! Ruby, Delon, Theo, Luca and Lois from Year 2 all had a go at piping buttercream on to the cupcakes, as well as making fondant t-shirt and flower toppers. The learnt how to “warm up” the fondant to make it ready to roll out evenly, how to use a cutter and how to make flower toppers look 3D.
Ali, Esther, Sienna, Peter, Sophie and Joanita from Year 5 also made t-shirt and flower toppers; with Peter making an amazing Pudsey tshirt. Ali was an expert piper and helped add a swirl of buttercream to the remaining cupcakes before adding the chocolate bean spots.
The very talented Iona and Drew from Year 6 created Pudsey faces for the staff raffle prize which was won by Mrs Vincent.
The children were so interested in how to make the toppers and really enjoyed their session. They were even more excited the next day when the whole school bought their cupcakes, even if Delon’s was gone before he could buy it!
