On Friday 4th March, eight children from years 3, 4 and 6 competed in the Key Steps 2 and 3 Gymnastics Competition at the impressive Europa Gymnastics Centre in Crayford.
The children worked extremely hard, in only a short space of time, to train and practise their floor, body management and vault routines alongside the Athena Gymnastics coaching team. Their dedication and determination was second to none.
On the day, they not only performed to the best of their ability, but also behaved like true professionals. They were focused, respectful and even supported the gymnasts from the opposing teams as they were competing too.
Unfortunately, despite their amazing performances, the Key Steps 3 team (Y6) did not bring home a medal. However, the Key Steps 2 team (Y3/4) successfully pipped Hurst to become the overall winning team. They will now go on to represent Bexley at Crystal Palace in June.
All of the gymnasts had the privilege of meeting Catherine Lyons, the 2014 Junior European floor champion and 2015 Junior British Championships all-around, vault, beam and floor champion and had some photographs with her. That’s definitely one for the photo album!
We would like to extend our thanks to the coaches at Athena Gymnastics Club who supported the children and gave up their own time to coach them. We would also like to say a huge thank you to the parents and supporters who were able to come along and cheer on the children.
We are extremely proud of all the gymnasts and thoroughly enjoyed such a wonderful experience with them.
