At Upland Primary School our vision for Physical Education is that every child should have the opportunity to develop the physical confidence and competence to enjoy being physically active. Through PE & Sport our children learn to develop important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude and academic success. We believe Physical Education provides the foundation of every child’s physical, mental and social well-being as well as providing the opportunities to raises standards of achievement for all.
A big proportion of our Sport Premium funding has been invested in employing skilled professional coaches in gymnastics, dance and multi-skills. This allows the children to receive comprehensive teaching of skills and aptitudes required for each of these sports. The coaches have also helped develop core PE provision and continue to support staff in their professional development.
A fundamental part of our Physical Education at Upland Primary School is promoting healthy living and what steps to take to lead a healthy lifestyle. We are currently looking into different clubs and incentives to further support and promote this within our school community.
We also endeavour to give as many children as possible the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive sports during their school life, giving them the prospect of understanding what competition feels like, what it is like to be part of a team and to be able to both win and lose with equal grace.
There are also opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles in which they can build character and embed values such as fairness and respect. We aim to celebrate these important characteristics by awarding certificates to our monthly ‘Sports Superstars’ in our achievement assemblies.
We hope that all of these opportunities will help our children to develop into well-rounded and balanced individuals, all set for life beyond Upland.
