Upland @ Young Voices 2015 in the O2
Friday 30th January 2015
Wow! In July last year we started to get ready for another amazing concert with Young Voices at the O2 and the time has just flown. The children had at least an hours’ worth of lyrics and tunes to memorise, lots of dance moves, lyrics in Latin and Zulu and 2 and 3 part harmonies.
69 children from years 4, 5 and 6 came with us on the day to join over 7000 other school children from across the UK.
We were shown to our seats for the rehearsal and this year our performing children had great seats in level 1 with a great view of the stage. The rehearsals flew by and before we knew it 2 meals had been eaten, the star guests had practiced their numbers with us and the parents started arriving.
Our parents’ big block of seats was also on level one and nearly opposite us! The children were very excited about seeing their parents arrive as the staff tried to point them out. The children were kept busy as the upland school banner was passed along; up and down the rows many times so that they could all have a go at waving it and be spotted.
The concert was again truly amazing and well worth all of the hours of choir and home practice.
Each year I think was it worth all of the time and effort and then see/hear/experience the end result and realise how amazing and special it is for all of the children taking part.
The cheer/scream as the lights in the arena fall is always amazing and gives you a hint of how professional the whole concert is going to be.
I can’t wait for next year’s songs and dates to be announced so that we can sign up again. Look out for the letters going out to the current year3, 4 and 5 to sign up for the O2 choir in June/July.
