GB Paralympian Andy Barrow
On Wednesday, we were luckily enough to be visited by GB Paralympian Andy Barrow. The day was brilliant and the children learned valuabe lessons in the importance of fitness, health and nutrition.
The day started with the children (and teachers) being put through their paces in a sponsored circuit training session. For four minutes, the children had to do four exercises including star jumps, spotty dogs, leg drives and press ups. The money raised by the children will be used to support other Olympic athletes with training costs and competition fees, as well as going towards some new playground equipment to encourage our children to participation in more active play.
After this, Andy and Patrick (from Sports4all) held a whole school assembly, where Andy explained about the gruelling training regime of an Olympic athlete and we were able to ask him many questions about himself and wheelchair rugby.
In the afternoon, KS2 took part in a bench ball tournament, the winners of which will be announced in Friday’s assembly.
We all had a fantastic day and hope to see Andy and Patrick again soon!
