A few weeks ago, the National Governors’ Association visited Upland Primary’s Governing body to interview them, along with many schools up and down the country, for the 2015 Outstanding Governing Board award.

The association noted the journey the Governors had been on to achieve the Outstanding in Leadership and Management – awarded in September 2014. They were particularly struck by the caliber of the Chair, Liz Dawes, and Vice-Chair, Emma Johnson; the togetherness of the Senior Leadership Team and the Governors and the vision that they have for the school. With all of this evidence in front of them, the Governing Body were invited as, one of six, finalists to the Houses of Commons for the award ceremony.

Despite not being the overall winners of the award, yesterday the Governors were awarded with a Special Commendation award for their collaboration with other Governing Bodies in Bexley and the impact they have had on the school and the pupils.

It was an absolute honour to be invited and attend the day. The Governing Body are now looking forward to contributing to the further success of the school.
